The lights flicker, die, and leave you in a silence that feels… expensive. The hum of the refrigerator stops. The Wi-Fi router’s tiny lights go dark. And that’s when you ask yourself the real question: are generators worth the money?
It’s not a simple yes or no. It’s a personal calculation that sits at the crossroads of your budget, your location, and your absolute tolerance for chaos. I’m not here to sell you one.
Let’s be honest, when the lights flicker and die, your mind doesn’t race to the abstract concept of “emergency preparedness.” It goes to the food in your fridge, the sump pump in your basement, the medical device your family relies on, or just the simple, sanity-saving comfort of a lit room and a charged phone.
Let’s be real for a second. You open your electricity bill and that familiar knot tightens in your stomach. It’s not just the number—though that’s bad enough. It’s the feeling of being trapped. You’re hooked into a system you don’t understand, paying a premium for a fundamental need, and you feel utterly powerless. Every rate hike, every “peak hour” surcharge, is just another twist of the knife.
You’re probably here because you just got the email. Or maybe the letter in the mail. You know the one. The one from your utility company that makes your heart do a little flip-flop—and not the good kind. You open it, your eyes scan down to the bottom line, and a silent scream forms in the back of your throat. “How is it this high? I wasn’t even home that much!”
